Description: This file is created from the top 500 foreign affiliate sales files, for years 2006 and 2007. For each year, we first throw out the affiliates that are not actually foreign affiliates (this includes Chinese firms based in Hong Kong, perhaps for tax purposes, that are in this top 500 list). This leaves 251 affiliates for 2006 and 277 affiliates for 2007. Many of these affiliates have a common owner. We group the various affiliates by common owner and use the variable multinat_text as the name of the foreign firm. We use multinat_id as the index of the foreign firm. Note that in some cases there are two foreign firms listed on the same affiliate. For example, SONY Ericcson. In such cases, we create two records, one for SONY, the other for Ericson.

The Table below list is a summary table of the file, adding up affiliate sales across multinat_id by year.
