Description:
This file determines links between file USapp_for_priority
(claiming foreign priority in China) and CNpub_basedat. Specifically, we begin with the US patent applications
making a foreign priority claim based on a CN patent application,
and we match this claim to the patents in the set CNpub_basedat.
For US applications
published in 2012, we don’t necessarily expect to find a match in our data set
of Chinese published applications, because the last publication year in the
Chinese file is 2010. Applicants have
one year to file based on foreign priority.
This explains why in the table at the bottom of the file, the match rate
for US applications published in 2012 is only 25.91 percent, and for 2011 is
44.79 percent. For years 2006 to 2010,
the match rate is 93 percent or higher and for 2005 it is 88.44 percent. For earlier years it is a little lower, but
that doesn’t matter in our study because we focus on Chinese patents published
2005-2010.

with the 1,748,151 foreign priority claims in USapp_ for_priority and select out 49,216 cases where the foreign
priority claim is a CN patent. We next
select the 43,312 unique values of app_publication_num*app_publication_kind.
For each app_publication_num*app_publication_kind, we ask if there is at least one match
in CNpub_basedat and table below reports the results.
